Amalena Artisans
NATALIA, AN AMALENA ARTISAN WITH PASSION
24-year-old Natalia started her profession as a goldsmith six years ago after having received training at the local jewelry workshop. Since then, the passion for making jewelry has been an integral part of her life. With a lot of motivation and zest, she works very hard for her career: besides being an artisan, she has a job as a seller in a small shop.
Natalia uses her income not only to support her family but also to fund her studies. She takes e-learning classes and commutes to Pasto, the capital of the Colombian department of Nariño, every fortnight for three days in order to visit classroom lectures and to take exams.
She believes in working hard and is convinced that one day it will lead her to achieve mastery. Her dream for the future is to combine the craft she loves with her profession by helping to improve the process at the cooperative workshop. This will make it more efficient and productive.
For Natalia, Amalena is a big chance. “Amalena is a great opportunity for me and it will help me to grow as an artisan and as a person,” she says.
She believes that people should seek to be better human beings just as a craftswoman in the jewelry workshop should seek perfection in her creations.
